Boxing Day Blues

So quiet on Boxing Day,
less cars go down our street
I smoke a joint in my backyard
I feel so full of peace
The sun is bright and clear today,
you hear it in the streets
No other sound discernible,
apart from birdsong tweet

And it’s calm, in your arms
Cos this love can protect me from any social harms

Consumption as religion is clearly the new creed
You know that I don’t like it,
I don’t dig this new breed
But kissing don’t cost nothing
and it makes me feel so free
So let’s spend all day kissing
and forget that Christmas greed

Cos it’s calm, in your arms
Cos this love can protect me from any social harms

Politician maniacs upon my TV screen
but I don’t have a TV set today,
they can’t touch me
Instead we sit and listen
to a Phil Ochs CD
All the news that’s fit to sing is news enough for me

And it’s calm, in your arms
Cos this love can protect me from any social harms

Christmas comes just once a year
Thank Christ that it’s not more
Cos if it was
the bailiffs would be knocking on my door
But it’s good, I must admit,
to be with you all day
Cos life holds big surprises
there’s a little one on the way

And it’s calm, in your arms
Cos this love can protect me from any social harms
Yes, this love can protect me from any social harms
