Home is Where the Hate is

We were born in hospitals beds next to each other
Your mother turned to mine and said
“One day, they’ll fall in love and move in together and live happily ever after”

She was wrong

We walked to school together holding hands
but when we got there, you went off with your friends
to cool to be seen in public with me

We grew up in the same place
Our mothers brought us up in the same ways
But we are not the same
We don’t think the same
because home is where the hate is
and I can really feel it now

You got a job and a brand new start
I signed on with Open My Heart
I was hoping that I’d never get a job at all

Pretty soon you had a company car
and while on my bicycle, I didn’t get far
but at least I got exercise
You just got overweight

We grew up in the same place
Our mothers brought us up in the same ways
But we are not the same
We don’t think the same
because home is where the hate is
and I can really feel it now

You got married and a mortgage too
You got kids, yeah, you got 2.2
That’s reason enough for me to despise you

You think Britan is still great
while I say England is a place to hate
I can’t understand what makes you feel so proud

We grew up in the same place
Our mother’s brought us up in the same ways
But we are not the same
We don’t think the same
because home is where the hate is
and that really hurts my heart

home…I can’t find it…home
